UKRAINE’S INVICTUS GAMES WINNERS AWARDED DECORATIONS BY THE PRESIDENT
President Petro Poroshenko awarded state orders to Team Ukraine members during the official reception after the squad’s return from Canada.
“Invictus Games sounds good in English, but I like the Ukrainian translation – Games of the Undefeated – much more,” the President said during his opening remark, emphasizing that “the Ukrainian team truly demonstrated what a Ukrainian warrior is”.
Speaking about the team’s success during the Games, Petro Poroshenko commended the team’s dedication and cohesion: “You’ve become such a powerful and well-coordinated team in such a short period of time. You trust one another. I think it should be a symbol for the whole Ukraine, which needs unity now more than ever.”
During the ceremony, the President awarded 11 Medals 3rd Class of the Order of Merit to Oleh Zimnikov, Pavlo Mamontov, Roman Panchenko, Vasyl Pashkevych, Oleksandr Pysarenko, Valerii Rak, Vadym Svyrydenko, Dmytro Sydoruk, Oleksandr Tkachenko, Serhii Shevchuk, and Serhii Torchynskyi. Pavlo Budaievkyi, who won four of the team’s eight gold Invictus Games medals, received the Medal 1st Class of the Order of Merit. The team’s only female participant Kateryna Mykhailova was bestowed with the Medal 3rd Class of the Order of Princess Olga.
Completing the awards ceremony, the Head of State thanked the Ukrainian team for a wonderful performance in Toronto. “Thank you very much, first of all - to the winners, to all the participants, because all the participants are the winners. To the coaches, to all who provided and all who supported,” the President said.
