INVICTUS GAMES TORONTO 2017
Toronto 2017 competitions became the third in the Games history and the first for Ukraine. The Ukrainian national team's path to the biggest competition for wounded, ill and injured servicemen and military veterans began with the private initiative of two Ukrainian companies in 2015. Subsequently, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and other state authorities joined the Invictus Games Foundation. The idea of the national team’s participating has found wide response among the Ukrainian diaspora in Canada, as well as many veteran and volunteer organizations.
In August 2016, Ukraine received an official invitation to take part in the Invictus Games Toronto 2017, and no less than in the fall of that year, nationwide selection of candidates for the national team began. More than 200 serving members of the military and veterans submitted the application. 126 of them found themselves on the next round of selection and were invited to sport tests in three Ukrainian cities - Kyiv, Lviv and Odessa.
The next stage in the selection of candidates for the national team was the National Invictus Games. The large-scale tournament in Kyiv on April 22, 2017 united 107 participants from all over the country who competed in 6 adaptive sports. According to the results of the competition, the organizing committee selected 26 participants who joined the national team of Ukraine - 15 of them were in the first team, and 12 more formed a reserve. Invictus Games announced the names of the first national Ukrainian team during the gala concert in the heart of the capital.

During the spring and summer of 2017, the team was persistently preparing for the competitions in Toronto - in addition to daily personal training, the national team members met three times at training camps, where they improved their abilities, supervised by professional trainers, doctors and psychologists.
In September, exhausting workouts have finally borne fruit. At its debut Invictus Games, the Ukrainian National team showed one of the best results among the other 16 countries, winning 14 medals, 8 of which are of the highest rank. Ukrainian servicemen and veterans once again demonstrated the invincible power of the spirit and became an example of how the will to live and the belief in their own abilities may be stronger than the circumstances. In 2018, Ukraine will return to Invictus Games again.
The selection for the national team, which will play on forthcoming competitions in Australian Sydney, will begin as early as next spring.
