HOW THE INVICTUS GAMES 2018 TEAM WILL BE SELECTED

This October, 15 Ukrainian service members and veterans will compete at the international Invictus Games in Sydney. The team was selected by a special commission from among the winners of the National Team Trials held in Kyiv on May 12. The names of the team members will be announced on June 1. There will be no reserve team in 2018.

Decisions on each candidate were made collectively, and selection requiring the unanimous support of all commission members.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Requirement: candidate has an illness, wound or injury received during or as a result of serving in the ATO combat zone or in an international peacekeeping operation. 

Selection criteria:

1. Results in the Invictus Games 2018 National Team Trials and assessment by coaching staff and doctors on the candidate’s athletic potential and ability to endure the physical strain of preparations for the international competition.

2. Candidate’s ability to train regularly and take part in all team preparation events

3. Candidate’s motivation for participating in the Invictus Games, psychological stability, ability to work in a team, follow a training regimen, level of social adaptation.

Additional criteria were applied to candidates who were on the reserve team last year and attended the Invictus Games 2017 in Toronto: their psychological stability, ability to work in a team, discipline during training and at the competition based on feedback from competition organizers, coaching staff and team partners.
